Kurina Sohn

Kurina Sohn is a multidisciplinary artist from South Korea based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her work explores diverse realms, life forms, and narratives that transcend the ordinary. The projects employ a poetic approach to offer fluid and inclusive interpretations of modern realities. She is inspired by the unknown, fascinated by the limits of our understanding and the new possibilities of the latest technological developments. Through thorough research she gains a broad theoretical knowledge of transformative elements in novel mediums such as EEG brainwave sensors, artificial intelligence, or digital fabrication. The resulting projects range from sculptural objects [Halo Collection, OFF-BLACK Mirrors, OFF-SURFACE, etc.] to immersive installations [Synthetic Halo, Deepest Unknown, OFF-BLACK Fountain, Crawing, etc.].

Kurina has received multiple residencies and grants and has exhibited both nationally and internationally. She is engaged in various collaborations [Hotel Symbiogenesis, meta:morphosis, etc.], including continuous work with Delphine Lejeune and Clara Schweers [Unearthed.world]. Since 2020, she has co-initiated a fluid Asian collective called NeeNee Collective, through which she has collaboratively curated and exhibition design [COLLETIBLE, Dreamers of the Playscape, Transcrossing Identities, Sunnyside Up, etc.].
